The Shoreby Club is a 25 room lakefront mansion in Bratenhal, Ohio, just east of Downtown Cleveland. This is a member-owned private club so you’ll need to either be a member or get sponsored by a member. If you have the connections, this is a wedding venue that is very much worth looking into. Shoreby Club’s stately stone mansion sits right on Lake Erie and boasts some of the best sunset views of anywhere in Cleveland. The terrace behind the mansion is an amazing ceremony location and there is a semi-permanent tent that can host receptions. The Shoreby Club can meet all of your catering and bartending needs so there is no need to find an outside catering company.
Exterior and Grounds
The stonework surrounding the exterior of the mansion gives it a very welcoming old-world charm. The grounds are meticulously maintained and the outdoor terraces offer lots of space for cocktail hour, ceremonies, and family and bridal party photos. There is a boardwalk just a short walk from the terrace that brings you right down to the water. The adventuresome and rule-breaking type can even wander out onto the natural rock break wall.
Inside the Mansion
The interior of the mansion boasts 25 unique and beautifully appointed rooms over three floors. The mansion was renovated in the 90’s to make it more useful as a clubhouse but features such as the original millwork and fireplaces were preserved.
Ceremonies
Wedding ceremonies usually take place on the back terrace. The bridal party stands near the stone wall giving the guests a spectacular view of Lake Erie. There is plenty of fo space to set up for a ceremony and still have lots of room left over for a cocktail hour on the patio next to the mansion.
Receptions
Receptions take place in a white semi-permanent tent just to the west of the mansion. The tent provides cover from the elements but it still provides an outdoor, airy ambiance with an amazing view of the lake.
Sunsets
You can’t talk about Shoreby CLub without talking about the sunsets over Lake Erie. The shoreline points slightly West so the view of the sun dipping down below the horizon is completely unobstructed. A storm started rolling in over the lake during Jenny and James’ wedding which created the most stunning and ominous sunset we have ever seen. That storm later struck land with such force that we had to press pause on the reception in the tent and everyone came inside for about an hour. The guests lined the bar and filled the rooms on the first floor and some even broke into song. The storm eventually passed and they were able to start the dance floor up again but it was a very unique experience and a fun story to tell.
Catering
All catering and bar services are hardly but The Shoreby Club and their in-house staff. This is a huge benefit because there is no need to find and select an outside catering or beverage service company. The food and staff are absolutely top-notch and you and your guests will be very well taken care of.
Conclusion
The Shoreby Club is the absolute ideal venue for a lakeside wedding. The grounds and mansion are dripping with character and the staff is amazing. It has everything you need to host your entire wedding from preparation, the ceremony, bridal party and family photos, cocktail hour and reception.
