Ken and Joe’s wedding day at Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens has been a long time coming. Fourteen years, in fact. You’ll end up with a lot of history after being together for that amount of time but I’m sure that’s small portion compared to the history that is yet to be created.
The day itself couldn’t have been more perfect for an outdoor ceremony at the end of the famous birch allee; an iconic location immediately recognizable to anyone from the Akron area. Thankfully, early concerns over the fact that the wedding date coincided with Founder’s Day, one of the biggest weekends on the Akron calendar, turned out to be a complete non-issue. We were able to photograph around the grounds and gardens at our leisure and we are quite happy with the images we were able to create!
Getting the basement reception location to match the beauty of the gardens is a pretty tall order but it was certainly not beyond the reach of Neil and his team at Neil Leeson Decor Floral. Neil took inspiration from the city of New Orleans, Ken and Joe’s favorite travel destination, and converted an empty shell into a beautiful and inviting space. That sort of transformation still doesn’t fail to surprise even after all these years of working together. The decor combined with the talents of DJ Scott E. Jones made for a fantastically fun and active reception.
We’ll start with a collection of James’ favorites images from the day:
