What is easily Akron’s most famous landmark, Stan Hywet Home and Gardens will transport you to another time and place as soon as you enter the property. Over 70 acres of meticulously maintained gardens surround an awe-inspiring manor house. From the stone-walled English Garden, to Birch Allee, the Japanese Garden, the Butterfly Conservatory, The Dell and more, the opportunities for amazing wedding photography are limitless. Ceremonies can take place at a number of locations around the property including the West Terrace and the Tea House at the end of Birch Allee. Receptions take place inside the mansions in what used to be the Seiberling family gymnasium which has since been converted into a banquet hall.
Manor House
The Manor House is the central focal point of Stan Hywet. The Tudor style mansion is one of the largest in all of America and been meticulously maintained and restored. While we can not take wedding and engagement photos inside the manor house, every side of the exterior offers amazing backdrops. However, wedding receptions do take place in the banquet hall in the basement.
Birch Tree Allee
Birch Tree Allee is a 300 foot long walking patch under birch canopy. It leads away from the manor house to the Tea Houses.
Tea Houses
The tea houses are a stunning stone structure and terrace on the north side of the property. Follow the narrow steps down towards the lagoon for a beautiful vine-covered stone wall. The terrace is a perfect spot for smaller, more intimate ceremonies.
Lagoon
The lagoon is one of the lesser traffic areas and is perfect if you want a little solitude.
Japanese Garden
The Japanese garden is a tranquil recessed paradise with lush greens and a meandering creek.
English Garden
The English Garden is a European style walled garden with a central reflecting pond.
West Terrace
Behind the manor house is a stone terrace that leads to the western overlook. There is a grassy lawn large enough for a one hundred guest ceremony setup.
Plane Tree Allee
The Plane Tree Allee extends from the south of the manor and is on your left as you make your way to the English Garden.
The Carriage House
The Carriage House can be used for wedding day preparations if your ceremony or reception is taking place at Stan Hywet.
Great Garden and Grape Arbor
The Great Garden is the main flower garden at Stan Hywet and the Grape Arbor butts right up against Birch Allee.
What We Love About Stan Hywet
Stan Hywet offers an amazing amount of variety in both architecture and nature. It is centrally located in Akron so it is a short drive from all of the Akron area wedding venues. A staff member will be assigned to you to guide you through the grounds and golf carts which can save a lot of time walking from one spot to another. The grounds are free to shoot on if your wedding reception is taking place at Stan Hywet. Otherwise, there is a fee of $500 for wedding day photography on the grounds. Visit the official website for even more detailed information.
