Every couple of years, we make it a point to go visit my family in France. This time though, instead of going to the Alsace where all my immediate family lives, we started our trip in Southwest France where my brother-in-law is from. And since my niece and nephew were on spring break, all the kids got to spend plenty of time together, reconnecting and playing despite some language barrier.
Our first stop after landing in Barcelona was Carcassonne which set a high standard for the rest of the trip. This fortified city has over 2500 years of history and was almost demolished by the government. So glad after some convincing, the fortress was instead preserved as a historical monument.
