Congratulations on making it this far on your path in the medical profession! As part of your ERAS application, you are going to need to include a specifically formatted professional headshot. We are here to make that process very easy for you. We know what poses and background you need, and we can make sure that you get your headshot in the exact file format the AAMC requires in just a couple of days.

What Is an ERAS Headshot Used For?

Your ERAS (Electronic Residency Application Service) headshot appears on your medical residency application and is used by:

  • Program directors during selection
  • Interviewers before and after meetings
  • Coordinators managing applications

While it doesn’t officially affect your chances, a professional photo helps establish confidence, polish, and attention to detail.

When your application is being reviewed, your photo is going to be the first thing that their eyes land on, so it’s best to make it count.

ERAS Photo Requirements

The AAMC requires the following specs for your ERAS photo

  • Size: 2.5 x 3.5 inches (vertical)
  • Resolution: 150 dpi
  • File size: less than or equal to 100KB
  • Format: JPEG
  • Background: Plain white, gray, or soft blue
  • Framing: Head and shoulders visible, face centered, forward facing

Yes. While it’s not required to be professionally taken, a polished, well-lit photo helps make a strong impression and shows you’re taking the application process seriously.

Absolutely. We deliver a JPEG file that is properly cropped to 2.5 x 3.5 inches, 150 dpi, and under 100 KB—ready to upload to ERAS.

It’s not recommended. Business professional attire is the expected standard. Save scrubs for your Instagram; your ERAS photo should match the formality of a job application.

Yes! A natural, confident smile is encouraged. Just avoid anything too casual or exaggerated.

We aim to retouch with empathy and love, and we think it’s important to keep it real. We want you to look like you would on your best day when you are well rested and hydrated, having a great hair day, and your skin is clear and blemish free.

Temporary blemishes will always be removed and more permanent features like scars or moles can be remove on request.

Both! We have a comfortable and cozy studio attached to our home here in Green. The studio has its own entrance and a private restroom and changing room that you are welcome to use.

If it’s easier for us to come to you, or if you want your work space to serve as your backdrop, we can bring our portable headshot studio to you for a small fee.

We’ll be able to review and select your favorite images in real time as we are taking them. This is an excellent way to make sure that hair, clothing and jewelry are doing exactly what you want.

By the end of your headshot session, you will have made a selection of your favorite images for proofing. These proofs will go into a private online gallery where you’ll be able to make your final selections for retouching and downloading.

Yes. We’ll also provide a high-resolution version that’s perfect for professional networking sites, hospital directories, or social media.

We review the images together during your session so you can choose your favorite before we deliver the final version. Retouching is included to address minor blemishes or distractions.

ERAS doesn’t specifically prohibit AI-generated images, but it’s best to avoid them. Your headshot should accurately and honestly represent you. If the AI image alters your facial features, lighting, or skin texture, it could come off as misleading; especially if there’s a noticeable mismatch at interviews. A well-lit, professional studio photo is a safer, more credible choice.

Hello! I’m James, a professional photographer based in Northeast Ohio, with over 20 years of experience helping people look their best in front of the camera. Whether you need a quick profile photo update or a full set of polished images, I create headshots that are professional, approachable, and tailored to your goals.

Our Studio

Our studio is conveniently located in Green Ohio, right off of the Arlington and Massillon Rd exits. We offer in-studio and on-location on an appointment basis.

We regularly photograph residency applications from NEOMED, CWRU School of Medicine, and Cleveland Clinic Learner College of Medicine.
