American by blood and French by proximity, Genevieve grew up the daughter of Americans living in France for the first 19 years of her life. While always being identified as “The American”, she decided she needed to find out what it was like to actually live here, so she enrolled in the Art Education program at Kent State University. It was here where she sharpened her visual palette, first with drawing and painting, then later with photography. Shortly before completing her degree, she and James met, and they were married 18 months later. Her eye and skill for travel and fine art photography slowly morphed into photojournalistic and artistic people photography, and Genevieve Nisly Photography was born. Now, Genevieve serves as the heart of Genevieve Nisly Photography, guiding the creative direction and keeping them focused on what matters most; documenting relationships and the events that shape them.
In her free time, Genevieve enjoys tending to her vegetable and flower gardens, cooking and baking, reading, and experimenting with craft cocktails.
A Northeast Ohio native and lifer, James’ first creative outlet was in music. After starting and playing in several bands, the opportunity to take a job in an electronics lab at a Fortune 500 company came along, which strongly appealed to his geek/tech side. The time spent in the lab with the engineers and scientists sharpened his mind for the technical, but he never really let go of the need for a creative outlet. When Genevieve Nisly Photography began to grow, it was a natural transition to bring the creative and technical together in the form of photography and he quickly came alongside Genevieve to form the two-shooter team that they are today. If Genevieve is the heart, James is the brains of Genevieve Nisly Photography, providing the tools, systems, and processes that allow them to create the highest quality work, and to provide the best service possible to their clients.
